A new study by the Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University of Essex has found that first born girls are the most ambitious and are the highest achievers.
Looking at 1,503 sibling groups and 3,532 individuals, the research found that first born girls were 13% more ambitious than first born boys and were more likely to achieve higher levels of education than their younger siblings.
Lead researcher Feifei Bu told The Guardian:
"There are several possible explanations for the higher attainment and ambition of the eldest," said Bu.
"It could be that the parents simply devote more time and energy to them – it could be they are actually more intelligent. For me, I tend to lean towards the theory that parental investment is possibly at work here."
With examples like Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, Sheryl Sandberg, Hillary Clinton, JK Rowling and several members of the Handbag.com team, there are plenty of successful first born girls to testify to the stats.
