A toxicology report released this afternoon has confirm that Peaches Geldof died of a heroin overdose at home, while looking after her 11-month-old baby.

DCI Paul Fotheringham confirmed the sad news at Gravesend Old Town Hall this afternoon, saying the toxicology report shows "recent use of heroin at levels which identified it was likely to have played a role in her death".

The Times ran the story this morning speculating that the report would say the mother of two died from an overdose of the drug, echoing the death of her mother Paula Yates in 2000.

Police reported no drugs paraphernalia were found at the TV presenter's Kent home, leading to speculation that these were removed before the police arrived.

The cause of Peaches' death was being treated as "unexplained and sudden" after she was discovered by husband Thomas Cohen on April 7.

Coroner Roger Hatch had been waiting for the toxicology report to confirm a cause of death after an autopsy carried out proved inconclusive.

The sad news comes after Peaches recently wrote about how becoming a mother had made her leave her wild days behind her.

"Before, I was not at peace with myself about it because I was just traumatised," she said. "That's why I was living a chaotic lifestyle. But now I have the kids I can heal the situation."

The untimely death of the second daughter of Bob Geldof and Paula Yates has left her loved ones devastated, not least her musician husband Thomas Cohen and two children, Astala, one, and Phaedra, 11 months.

"My beloved wife Peaches was adored by myself and her two sons," Cohen said in a statement.

"I shall bring them up with their mother in their hearts everyday. We shall love her forever."

Peaches herself lost her mother, Paula Yates, when she was just 11 years old.

Her father Bob said in a statement, "How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable?"

He added, "We loved her and will cherish her forever. How sad that sentence is."
