Handbag hearts:

Jessica Chastain obviously! No matter what role you put her in she manages to play it with ease.

We almost feel like she took this film to make sure no one could ever try and pigeon-hole her as an actress.

And she has definitely succeeded in that task.

It's almost like an initiation that actresses with something to prove must star in a horror flick as they're starting out in their career but Jess has chosen to do hers right in the middle of it all.

A Guillermo Del Toro film is never really going to be a bad move for any actor!

The film is very dependant on the two young actress playing the little girls and they do a superb job in such a fantasy film.

Sometimes they are too creepy for words and we loved the way they said, "Mama".

This isn't really that scary and we are usually petrified by everything. There are a few jumpy moments and some pretty intense scenes but we couldn't help but laugh at some parts of the flick and we don't really think that was the intention of the film makers.

The film almost felt a little bit slow at times and we think a lot more could have been down with the idea than we ended up seeing.

Also, the dramatic finale was so over the top and far too "operatic" for our liking.

Verdict: Not the best scary movie we've ever seen but a nice attempt at a working with a more classic ghost tale.

P.S. If you aren't a fan of creepy moths and other bugs then prepare yourself!

MAMA out in cinemas from 22 February 2013.
