Fast & Furious actor Paul Walker dies in car crash, aged 40

Statement on his official Facebook page confirms a tragic car accident.

Fast & Furious actor Paul Walker has died after a car crash in California.

Writing on his Facebook page, his publicist said: "It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organisation Reach Out Worldwide.

"He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives."

He played Brian O'Conner in the Fast & Furious franchise, beginning in 2001 on The Fast and the Furious.

Tributes have been pouring out for Paul, including messages from James Franco, Zoe Saldana and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Ludacris, who also starred alongside Paul in the Fast movies also paid tribute with a moving message and image.

He wrote: "Your humble spirit was felt from the start, wherever you blessed your presence you always left a mark, we were like brothers & our birthdays are only 1 day apart, now You will forever hold a place in all of our hearts @paulwalker legacy will live on forever. R.I.P."
