The New York Film Academy revealed shocking evidence of a widening gender pay gap in Hollywood, proving even the silver screen isn't immune to discrimination.
Even though J-Law beat the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Ryan Gosling to be crowned the most popular actor of 2013, she still earns less than Robert Downey Junior and Tom Cruise, who didn't even make it onto the list.
According to Forbes' annual list of the best paid actors only one is a woman - Angelina Jolie.
Aside from poor pay, women are also unrepresented in directing, writing and on-screen (only a third of speaking characters in movies are female and only 10% of films feature a gender balanced cast).
So, what's being done about this? Last year a group of feminists and film-makers wrote to the Cannes film festival to complain about the under-representation of women.
Elsewhere, Oscar-winner Geena Davis has founded the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media to increase the percentage of female characters and reduce stereotyping, and women like Diablo Cody, Kathryn Bigelow and Lena Dunham are flying the flag for female talents.
