The overwhelming verdict? It f***ing hurts.
We knew it.
Ruth Iorio, a blogger from Los Angeles decided last minute to share her experience of a home birth, "whether attractive or not and just to be honest about it."
The new mum had a natural birth (like a crazy hero), avoiding drugs but enjoying a whisky sour in the bath. She ended up in hospital needing a blood transfusion.
She also tweeted about diarrhoea, blood, placentas and reinforced the main point - that it's as painful as trying to pass a melon through your nostril.
But fucking hell - delivering a posterior baby is bloody difficult! That shit hurt! #ruthshomebirth— Ruth Fowler (@fowlerruth) December 27, 2013
Despite our legs now being permanently crossed - it was refreshing and honest (and gross. Did we mention gross?)
And my body was sending more and more blood to the placenta to try and dislodge it. THat blood was just flowing out of me #ruthshomebirth— Ruth Fowler (@fowlerruth) December 27, 2013
How the hell does one take a shit after birth? #ruthshomebirth— Ruth Fowler (@fowlerruth) December 27, 2013
Twitter was, rather unsurprisingly, divided by the whole thing.
Some say it was attention seeking, many praised the social diary for demystifying birth and some commented on the state of her bathroom tiles (really? Guys there's a picture of her placenta further down here - mildew is not the scariest thing you'll see today).
So, so freaking inspired by @fowlerruth - Seriously considering a midwife for baby número dos.— Andrea Kaye P (@SPEAKEASY2) January 9, 2014
I'm sorry, there is nothing beautiful about a woman taking pictures of her home birth. I find that disgusting.— Quincy (@xo_quincyanaya) January 8, 2014
Too graphic or good for women? You must have some thoughts on this. Tweet us @handbagcom
Oh, and one last thing - here's that placenta pic we warned you about (sorry - but seriously, look at that thing)....
