Sometimes those three small words are almost impossible to say out loud. Luckily, turning on your detective brain, watching his body language and clocking his behaviour can answer your niggling questions for you.

Want to know if he's really in it for the long haul? Take a look at our 8 signs below and let us know what you think in the comments box...

1. He makes great eye contact

If he stares into your eyes when you're talking, it's a clear sign that you have his full and undivided attention. Next time you have a heart-to-heart discussion check his eyes, before doing a quick sweep of the rest of his body language. Ideally he should turn his body to you (feet pointing in your direction) and react to the expressions on your face with his own facial expressions - like he's mirroring you.

2. He's touchy feely

We're not talking about any obvious kind of sexual touching here, but casual caresses that have no definitive purpose. Holding your hand when you walk down the street or stroking your arm at the dinner table suggests he's just happy being there with you in the moment - a sign that lust has turned into love.

3. He asks questions

Instead of just asking you what you want for lunch, a guy who's truly in love with ask about your parents, family, friends, hopes, dreams, career goals. Basically, he'll want to know everything there is to know about you, which is a sign that he's interested in doing what's best for you.

4. He make's you feel on your A-game

If he tries to make you feel like you're the only girl in the world, it's probably because you are his only girl. Whether he's complimenting you on your new outfit or sending you sweet emails he's trying to make you feel confident and happy - a sure fire sign that he's in love.

5. He wants to merge social circles

Meeting each others' friends and family is all about being part of each others' lives. If he has no intention of introducing you to his best friends it's time to get suspicious, but if he's introduced you to his grandma already he's probably in it for the long haul.

6. He's there during the rough times

If you're going through a really hard time at work or you've had a death in the family, a man truly in love won't shirk away from the responsibility of trying to make your life that little bit easier. If you feel you can instinctively turn to him when times are tough and he always manages to say the right things that's a sign that he's comfortable even in the difficult times.

7. He enjoys your company

We know, we know, this one's common sense but think about it. If he doesn't want to go anywhere with you or spend time with you outside the four walls of his house it's obvious he's not serious. Being able to experience new things together, laugh, smile and relax in each others' company is crucial. If he tries to make you feel positive it's a sign he wants you to be happy - a clear sign of love.

8. He says something

So maybe he hasn't said 'I love you' but have a think about any other things he's said that could indicate love. Remember Patrick Swayze's character in Ghost only ever said 'Ditto'! If he talks about never wanting to lose you, wishing you could be there when he's away from home or that he's thinking of you, all of these are a sign of deeper affection.
