Give power plating a try to tone up and feel fitter...

You may have heard of Power Plate, it's the vibrating exercise machine that top athletes, actors and pop stars use to get into shape fast. Having tried a course of sessions I now see why celebrities like Madonna use it to tone up quickly, and why it could be just the thing you need to kick-start a New Year diet or lose the cellulite before summer.

What is Power Plate?

It is an exercise machine with an upright stand and a small platform (the plate) that vibrates. You stand on the plate while it's vibrating and use the stand to hold on to or to do exercises with. You can also use resistance bands, medicine balls and yoga with Power Plate. A Power Plate session only lasts around 30 minutes and you do a series of exercises for just 30 seconds each to begin with, and build up to 60 seconds for each exercise once you've done a couple of classes.

How does Power Plate work?

There are several ways Power Plates works. It engages and works your core muscles, muscles that rarely get used during a regular gym session. And it gives you a mild cardiovascular workout too as you'll be doing fast steps, push ups and sit ups on the plate.

What are the benefits of Power Plate?

There are tons of benefits. It's great for toning the body, great for your posture, smoothing out cellulite, gaining better balance and co-ordination, improving bone density, stimulating circulation and losing weight. Plus, each session is only 30 minutes long, so it's great if you don't have much time.

What results you can expect?

You could easily drop a dress size in a course of 12 sessions, but Power Plate has to be done on consecutive days, so you have to do a class every other day, although the fact that the class is just 30 minutes long makes it easy to fit into a busy schedule.

After a course you'll also be more toned, flexible and a little fitter, although Power Plate is not an alternative to a cardiovascular exercise like running.

At the end of the class there's a 10 minute warm down where your muscles are massaged by the vibrating plate - this is bliss!
